Invitation to participate

LGBT people from all areas of Australia are invited to submit a self-portrait (no artistic skills are necessary). Self-portraits can be abstract or as traditional as you like although they must illustrate some aspect of your identity. Traditional and non-traditional mediums and/or modes of self-expression are encouraged. It is expected that the self-portraits will highlight diversity within the LGBT communities of Australia.

About

Strike Me Pink! is an arts project that explores concepts of identity through the creative use of self-portraiture. The project aims to represent and celebrate diverse identities within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in Australia. The project is a response to Suicide Prevention Australia's position statement on suicide and self-harm among LGBT communities. The position statement identifies LGBT people as being at a significantly higher risk of self-harm and attempted suicide than non-LGBT populations. The position statement also suggests that such risks are increased further for LGBT people who are living in rural and remote communities. LGBT people of Australia are invited to submit creative self-representations to celebrate their identity while actively raising awareness of this national concern.

After several months of petitioning, and years of hoping, it can now be announced that Mackay, along with every other major Queensland city, will host the Annual QAHC Queer Film Festival.

The festival will take place on the 15th of May, and Mackay will play host to the Festival along with other cities including Brisbane, The Sunshine Coast and Townsville. The event is still in the early organisational stages, but if you would like to be involved, don’t hesitate to drop us an email.
